this will most likely happen this year for some teams, if a team becomes an expansion team (having -50 million or more in debt)their GM can still stay, but they will be starting from complete scratch. This means all players will be released into free agency (and they can't be drafted back) and your finances will be reset to $0, this will be an 8 round draft with picks depending on how many GM's are forced into being an expansion team. Keep in mind that you do keep whatever draft picks you have gotten from teams/your own team, so really you are drafting 10 players while needing to sign 2 more players for FA.The GM can also choose whether or not they want to change their teams name (PM please and keep it appropriate).
For GM's not in the expansion draft, they need to post a protection list, you can protect up to 8 players, you obviously can't protect free agents since they can't be drafted anyways. So if you have less then 8 players that's all you need to protect. You can also choose to protect less then 8 players even if you have 8 or more players. I will keep a list of all players going into the expansion draft.

question, say we reach an agreement with an agent for an extension on an FA for after the season would we have to protect them, or would they be protected as a FA?

so do we just pm you who we are protecting? and we cant protect expiring players right? even if we have their bird years or a deal with their gm worked out?

and you can't do extensions right now, so I don't see how your going to protect anyone that's an FA, if their a FA, then they can't be protected period.
